From hot flushes and night sweats to mood changes and sexual health concerns, symptoms can begin years before your final period and may continue well after. While healthy habits help, some women benefit from hormone therapy (HT) – the most effective treatment for vasomotor symptoms like hot flushes. HT can also support bone health, relieve vaginal dryness, and may reduce the risk of certain conditions when started at the right time. When you or someone you care about needs medical attention, choosing the right place can save time – and sometimes lives.
Your family doctor or nurse practitioner is the best first step, and many offer same-day appointments for urgent issues. Walk-in clinics and urgent primary care centres (UPCCs) are ideal for conditions that need care within 24-48 hours, like minor injuries, rashes, or mild breathing issues. For serious or life-threatening situations, such as chest pain, stroke symptoms, or heavy bleeding, head straight to the emergency department or call 9-1-1.
