Physician Leads

PCN Physician Lead

Dr. Dean Brown is a family doctor on the North Shore and the lead physician for the North Shore Primary Care Network Program delivered by the North Shore Division of Family Practice.  He is also an active staff at Lionsgate Hospital and the Director of the UBC North Shore Family Physician Residency Program for Coastal Site.  Dr. Dean has been leading the development of the Primary Care Network’s Preventive Care Education series and is looking forward to delivering more health talks and resources to the public. 

PCN Physician Lead

Dr. Ruth Campling is a family physician, who has been practising on the North Shore since 1981. Since she started, it became obvious to her that system change was long overdue. As a result, Dr. Campling is focused on team-based care and a transition to the North Shore Primary Care Network (PCN). She believes that the integration of a team of healthcare workers to support patient care can only enhance the healthcare system to the benefit of all involved.

Team Lead

Holding an MSc and a Project Management Certification, Kate has over 20 years of experience as a Project Manager in both Canada and the UK. She has previously worked with the Nanaimo Division of Family Practice and the Vancouver Island Health Authority.

Coordinator

Kathy provides support in the implementation and development of Primary Care Networks on the North Shore.  Kathy also works with the Preventive Care Working Group to create resources and to provide public education and looks forward to building and growing relationships with the North Shore community.

Communications Advisor

Kate Castelo is a senior communications professional who develops and implements strategic communication plans, assists in establishing and maintaining community and stakeholder relationships, and identifies public issues and messages.

Practice Change Manager

Candace has over 25 years of experience directly supporting Family Physicians and their office staff, primarily on the North Shore. Her previous roles include Health Technology Advisor at Doctors Technology Office (DoBC), Coordinator at the Practice Support Program (VCH), and Relationship Manager and Practice Automation Coach at the Physician Information Technology Office (PITO).

Over the course of her career, Candace has sharpened her skills as a quality improvement coach and developed a deep understanding of workflow within physician practices.

Administrative Assistant

Violet supports the North Shore PCN with general administration of the program. She responds to general inquiries on GP Link, schedules appointments, and assists with events.

Manager

Richelle Hughes works with the North Shore Division of Family Practice as a Primary Care Network (PCN) Manager, supporting the implementation and day-to-day operations of the PCN. These initiatives encompass the Registered Nurses in Practice,  the Mental Health Support Program, the Primary Care Community Pharmacists, and Recruitment, including New to Practice Contracts. Richelle has an educational background in HR Management and Finance. Richelle enjoys being able to use her knowledge within primary care to support system change, access, and equity.

Patient Services Coordinator

Katie supports patients on the North Shore by connecting them to a Family Physician or Nurse Practitioner. She works closely with healthcare providers in the community, ensuring they have the capacity to accept new patients. As such, she is responsible for updates to GP Links. 

Katie also works to build relationships with North Shore community organizations to ensure that our community is aware of the different healthcare resources available to them.

Physician Recruitment Coordinator

Michelle supports the recruitment and retention of new and existing North Shore family physicians and nurse practitioners who play a key role as primary care providers. She is looking forward to continuing to work with the members of the North Shore to help increase the community’s capacity to provide greater access to primary care.

Practice Improvement Technology Coordinator

Marilu oversees the NDFP IT needs and supports the PCN allied health professionals team with their technology needs.

Social Media Coordinator and Administrative Assistant

Deborah works to support the PCN Communications team and the overall programme.
